Dear St. Mary’s Families, Our school community has a growing reputation for being a diverse and yet unified expression of what it means to bring the very best to the lives of our children. The active participation of our families has been a key to this success. To build on this success, the St. Mary’s School and Family Connection was formed, of which all families are members.

The Connection is the result of efforts by a team of parents, together with the Principal, to create a structure that capitalizes on our spirit of volunteerism. Our goal is to strengthen communication and involvement between families and the school.

There are three main ways families work together to support and celebrate the formation of our children. Each is important to the vitality and success of our school.

1.Fundraising: These efforts exist to help defray the cost of tuition. Together, we can make a big difference by helping provide an excellent and affordable education for as many children as possible. There are a variety of events throughout the year that will enable each family to fulfill the annual fundraising commitment.

2.Service hours: We ask every family to contribute 15 service hours each year to the school. There are many jobs large and small that make our community work; from being a door greeter, cafeteria helper, or field trip chaperone to co-chairing one of our major fundraising events. Our children also have benefited from various programs such as Poetry Night and other stage productions because of the active involvement of parents.

3.Helping Hands: Many families choose to serve our school community beyond the required expectations. Helping Hands is a way to share your special interests or abilities and to make a difference with your time or talents.

As a member of the Connection, each family has something important to give. Our children benefit greatly from our collective contribution, and we benefit from serving and strengthening the school community. We invite you to join us as we, “Let our light shine before others; that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Regards,

Our thanks to one and all for making the 4th Family Night such a memorable event! A special “Tip of the Hat” goes to the organizational committee: Frank Daffin, Brian and Joan Lacey, Elaine Pearson, Gloria Reyes and Ellie Yuen and all our parent volunteers! We’re especially grateful to the Byrne family and “Chef Brian” of James’s Gate Restaurant for the delicious cuisine, to Bill Pearson for his creative endeavors in producing our “home movie,” to our 2007 alumnae helpers Christina Barstow and Emma Murphy, and to Miss Su Dong and Miss Nicolle Gagne who inspired our St. Mary dancers.
